Shepards Purse

AKA: Caseweed, Lady’s Purse, Shepherds Bag, Witch Pouch, Toywort, Peppergrass

Astringent ~ Diuretic

Vitamin K, Flavonoids

Used to stop internal bleeding including heavy menstruation.

It has also been used to stop external bleeding like nose bleeds

Commonly used by herbalists as a diuretic and astringent to clean the kidneys and disinfect the lower tract especially the urinary system.

Used in a bath for hemorrhoids and inflammations.

In parts of the world where it is readily available it is used as a spring tonic to renew the body, uplift spirits after a long winter and to detox from winter foods**(see note below).

Combined with Plantain it is used as a salve or ointment to heal wounds or skin disorders.

**NOTE: In years past we did not have refrigeration and the transportation systems we enjoy today that keep us supplied with quality foods.  Many countries still live without this luxury so the "winter diet" often consists of dried meats, berries and vegetables or canned goods.  Although our bodies can survive on these foods it does tend to clog up and the necessary minerals and vitamins dissappear.  Herbs that are refered to as a "Spring Tonic" are those that help to flush out the old and revitalize us with needed vitamins and minerals.  Trout
